Creating Accessible Documents Training

This training, "Creating Section 508 Compliant PowerPoint, Word, and PDF Documents," is composed of four modules.

This course was developed for course EDUC602 of UMBC's Masters in Instructional Systems Development. For academic purposes, only the fourth module "How to Make PDF Documents Accessible" was developed in full. Identifying information has been redacted from this work sample.

Skills and Technologies

Accessibility/Section 508 Compliance; Adobe Acrobat; Kirkpatrick's Evaluation Method; Microsoft PowerPoint; Microsoft Word

Context

Due to the client's need to ensure all outward facing material is Section 508 compliant due to funding origins, it was determined that all staff should be trained on making three of the most common types of documents accessible.

Action

A design plan and facilitator guide, including lesson plan, were developed. For the purposes of EDUC 602, the lesson plan focuses on Module 4: How to Make PDF Documents Accessible.

I created the training as an interactive, in-person experience, providing the opportunity for staff to obtain first hand experience with creating accessible documents. The training used the organization's presentation templates.

Results

The current version of the design and lesson plan have been made available to the client. The training may be further developed given sufficient funding.
